A great family trip, designed for the days leading up to Christmas, a wonderful time when children, and not so young, feel the excitement that these special days bring.
Thus, reaching the most authentic Finnish Lapland, where you can discover landscapes and snowy forests that seem like a fairy tale, to enjoy activities designed for all ages, such as exciting snowmobile safaris, sled rides pulled by friendly huskies and curious reindeer, fishing on frozen lakes or ice karting, become unique experiences to live with the whole family.
All this while staying in beautiful and exclusive wooden cabins, with all the comforts, from which to enjoy the silence, the beauty of the landscape and, who knows, maybe even the spectacular aurora borealis. And we can’t forget one of the most magical moments of our trip… The visit to Santa’s secret house! An unforgettable moment that will remain in the memory of young and old forever.
Husky and reindeer safari
After the first day of the trip, in which we will arrive at the Rukan Salonki complex, where the thermal equipment that we will use during our stay will be already prepared in our cabins, our adventure will begin.
The journey through the most authentic Lapland will begin with a visit to a husky dog farm, where we will be greeted with their enthusiastic barking, and where we will learn all the secrets of sledding. After our short lesson, we will embark on a husky-guided tour through the Finnish wilderness, marveling at the scenery around us as we go. We will be accompanied by a musher (an expert driver) and we will have the opportunity to exchange places to share this fantastic experience of speed and adrenaline.
Reindeer farm
During the excursion, we will enjoy a comforting salmon soup and then continue our journey through beautiful white forests and frozen lakes to reach a traditional reindeer farm. There, we will have the opportunity to enjoy a quiet sleigh ride with our new friends, while the shepherds share with us the unknown stories of their way of life.
Afterwards, we will have free time inside the complex, where we will find a beautiful illuminated track with slides and floats that will delight the little ones; in the frozen lake, we can also experience a Finnish carousel, in which one person sits while another makes them spin, or use the kick-sledges, a traditional sled with which to slide on the ice. We will end with a dinner to savor the Scandinavian gastronomy, while we share everything we have experienced this day.
Snowmobiling and ice fishing
Today, we will have to put on our thermal clothing again, as we are getting ready to enjoy the most amazing excursion of our trip. After a lesson with expert guides, who will explain how to drive the snowmobiles, the adults will share the bikes, in pairs, while the younger ones will get on a sled that will be driven by our guide. The route will take us through unpolluted snow to the shore of a frozen lake, where the next stage of our adventure will begin.
In the kota, the shed that fishermen use to take shelter from the cold, we will meet our fishing guide, with whom we will learn how to use the fishing rods and bait, as well as the kaira, the drill with which we will drill holes in the ice. And it’s time to get down to work! We will try our luck in the lake, trying to catch pike and perch, and then warm up with a hot drink by the kota campfire.
After enjoying a lunch of a wonderful assortment of Lappish tapas, tasty little morsels including local wild foods and a traditional goulash soup, we will go on an activity specially designed for family fun, a snowshoe hike! Will we manage to stay on our feet all afternoon?
Meeting with Santa Claus
And finally came the day that the little ones were waiting for… Near Ruka, there is a place that exudes magic, a charming little village of colorful houses and cabins from which you can enjoy magnificent views of the winter landscape. Children will be able to explore this secret place and have fun playing in its slide area, until it’s time to meet Santa Claus in person!

Freedom and gastronomy
After this magical meeting, we will have the afternoon free to relax in the sauna and enjoy all the facilities of the lodge. We will also have the opportunity to do some downhill skiing on the slopes of the Ruka alpine resort, very close to our cabins; the local slopes are open from October until almost the end of May, perfectly illuminated too, so it is the perfect time to enjoy them.
And to put the finishing touch to this special trip, we will enjoy an exclusive dinner in which the protagonists will be the cheeses of the northernmost cheese factory in Finland, as well as a crème brûlée with blackberries that will close this fantastic culinary journey.
The next day, we will take the flight back to Spain, with our hearts full of all the moments we have experienced on this magical trip.
